Letter, 5 February 1804.

Letter to an unnamed correspondent regarding two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court: Telfair et al. v. Stead's executors (2 Cranch 407) and Hannay v. Eve (3 Cranch 242). In Hannay v. Eve, Key was attorney for the plaintiff in error.

Philip Key served as chief justice of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court from 1800-1802, after which he practiced law in Maryland. He was elected to Congress in 1806.
